The gentleman in uniform was the father of a classmate of mine at Berlin American High School in the early 1960s. The statement "I know other children of CIA employees who never knew what their parents did" holds true for ALL of the children that attended the school, both military and civilian. Our fathers were ALL what was known as "spooks" and they told their families very little or nothing about their jobs.

Hi Karen,

What a truly amazing story and to have so much history to back it up. Just goes to show what a small world we live in, as the photo shows.

I miss your being able to come to your shows and seeing all of the different kinds of art you are doing these days. You work has certainly progress from our days in the MCC and our critiques at Sara's.

I enjoy you blog so much!

Pat, Thank-you for your comments. The whole story, the event of the spy exchange makes for an incredible story. And then for things to come together in a town in Virginia some 54 years later in a random conversation over a Volkswagen VW is amazing.
I know Charleston is full of art and I'm so glad you moved there. It's a great place to live and I'm sure you are very happy there. I still meet with Holley and we challenge ourselves in our art. Stay in touch my friend.

Wow! Karen that is a fascinating story. What a small world! I can't imagine the chills your sister got when the man in the photo was your dad! You are lucky to know so much of his background and this story. I can't wait to go see the movie, and I will think of you when I do.

Shelley, You will love the movie, it's a big screen thing too. At least that's what I kept thinking as I watched it. Remarkable, all of it.

Casa Mariposa

Thank-you, the movie is just amazing!
