I've been testing some new products that I would like to share. Previously considered "top secret stuff", only because it made me look like a superstar, but in the spirit of sharing, and because I want you to look like a superstar too, I am disclosing these wonderful products. All are fertilizers, organic fertilizers, used as a soil pour and/or foliar feed, the results are amazing! The first is called "Sustane Complete" by a company called Organic Mechanics. As part of the garden bloggers Fling last year, we were gifted a jar and I love, love it. The analysis is 8-2-4, a powder that you mix with water. Not readily available, the only source I find is through Harris Seed, no local garden centers seem to be offering it (yet). What it does to tired pots is incredible, the plants look like they just left the nursery after a week.
More recently I was gifted "Mary's Alpaca Poop +". A local business, her farm is in The Plains, Virginia. The product is self described, but sold in little pods that dissolve in a gallon of water. The analysis is 2-3-2 and it's rich in mycorrhizal fungi, which makes the roots and soil talk to each other (in accurate but simple terms). The results rival my favorite "Sustane" fertilizer and it's always good to shop local. You can order directly through Mary.
During a winter lecture by Holly Shimizu - the incredible Holly, she mentioned using liquid kelp as a foliar feed on roses. She explained that it thickens the cuticle, making the leaves more resistant to rose spot, rose slug, and various fungi. I've been spraying weekly and the leaves are glossy, thick, and healthy. Liquid kelp is available through multiple sources, including Amazon, so give it a try. Not, I don't believe, able to thwart Japanese beetles, I will soon find out how much they like to munch on kelp coated leaves... bastards!
As an additional note, I will be giving a lecture at Green Spring Gardens, Saturday, July 28th, from 9:30 to 10:30 on lowering your garden maintenance. Included will be these products and some tools I find indispensable. Sign up here.
Worded beautifully. No pun intended. Thanks for the great info.
The rain trashed my garden. Sounds like this is the CPR I needed.
See you soon
